My Life With Gracie…About Becoming

About Becoming

Amelia and I have discussed all of these recent posts, particularly the graphics. After all, they do involve the very sensitive subject of her molting.

We both wanted a picture to show her new feathers which we have been waiting patiently to be finished and ready for flight. Amelia wanted me to draw the most glorious new feathers possible. I promised to do my best while knowing my best will not be able to compare to what she will see for herself soon…wings to carry her to the moon and back, or as far as her heart desires.

She wanted more detail. I wanted less. She wanted illustration with textbook accuracy. I wanted playful cartoon.

We compromised, and I put a twinkle in her eye.

I think we may all have a sense we are becoming someone more than who we are now, not just with who we are on the outside, but who we are on the inside as well. But we resist anyone telling us who we are becoming. We also resist nature telling us who we are becoming.

So we dream big dreams and we hope even bigger hopes. We sense life as being about something much greater than we will ever understand, how it all seems to be moving to one big moment, one big conclusion, all found in an image more beautiful and more real than we can ever imagine.

Just as we resist anyone imposing upon us their ideas of who we are becoming, so life resists us imposing upon it our ideas of who we are becoming. But we are becoming more than we can imagine, and we will be changed…in the twinkling of an eye.

My Life With Gracie (and especially Amelia) gave me hope for what we shall become.

I will do my best to post each Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Every “Like,” “Follow,” and “Comment” is truly appreciated!
