“The most important thing to know about laying an egg is that it is about giving. Light and Life and Love are about giving, not getting. Don’t ever make any of these things about getting.”
Chicken Wisdom from Blanche in
“How To Explain Christmas To Chickens”
We are so thankful for all of you who have been following along with our adventures and bits of “chicken wisdom.” More than anything, we want to help bring peace and joy into your heart. With everything we share here, that is our goal.
For my chickens, they just go about their daily routine doing what chickens do. For me, I just draw illustrations and write words to go with them. There’s nothing special in any of those things.
So if anything here touches your heart, it’s not from my chickens or me. It’s from something far greater. It’s from the source of Peace and Joy. It is from Light and Life and Love.
“My Life With Gracie” wishes you Peace and Joy…and Light and Life and Love…and a very Merry Christmas too!
Gracie, Bessie, Pearl, Amelia, Emily, and John

You make a great point here. Just as you draw things and probably are not sure what you’re going to draw and then put words to it, I think that is the point of art often times. When I write a new story, I’m usually not sure what I’m going to do either, but I think that’s the thrill of life-not knowing. Many people hate not knowing certain things but if we knew it all, we’d all die of boredom I think. Why do we watch or read anything new? To find out what happens, first and foremost. At the same time, why do we write or draw anything new? To see what happens. This is such a great post! Thanks for sharing and here’s to a happy 2020!!!

Thank you for lighting a candle for all of us with another of your charming short stories and chicken wisdom, John.
I also like the new style of your black/off-white illustrations with the delicate lines / flow, light shades and highlights very much. The egg looks like a pearl!
It is also very smart to show the surface structure or hand-made like quality of the “paper” (background that reminds on vat paper)…The illustrations are beautiful, more “organic”; they look less computer-animated / less clean (sorry for struggeling with expressing myself).
I love it if a drawing still show the process of its creation. This aspect makes it truly unique because it reveals the signature and thoughts of the artist much more.
You got it, John!
I wish all of you a healthy, successful and happy New Year 2020 with a lot of love & inspiration! 🎆🎇🧨🎉🍾🥂🍀🐷🍄🧡

Thank you so much! (You know how I’ve struggled with this!)
I was unsure about this illustration style, so really didn’t make a big thing of it, waiting to see if anyone would notice and comment. I think this style fits them quite nicely. It feels more “alive” in a way, or as you said “organic.” And “less clean” is very true too. (Life and enjoying life can be messy at times!)
All of my girls and I are wishing for you all of the very best of every good thing for 2020!
